Historically, national Consular Corps needed a unifying European charity. That is why, in 2010, at the initiative of honorary consuls accredited in Europe, was created the Order of St. Gabriel.

Secular order of chivalry, modeled on the medieval orders, but with similar charitable objectives than their predecessors, the Order of St. Gabriel consists not only of diplomats and honorary consuls, but also representatives of civil society such as professors of universities, artists or senior officials active in charity work, through specific actions.

In early 2015, the Order of Saint-Gabriel – Benelux has decided to acquire legal personality by adopting the status of ASBL; Charitable Association of the Diplomat and Consul (Order of St. Gabriel – Benelux).

Indeed, the pyramidal structure initially created, as a result of association, did not bring all the expected guarantees.

Now it may, transparently, focus its charitable activities primarily for Benelux projects.
