During the gala dinner of the Order of Saint-Gabriel Belgium in 2023, a raffle was organized and raise funds for the benefit of the Compagnie de l’Oeil Rouge.
The Compagnie de l’oeil rouge aims to support adolescents and young adults with disabilities in their desire to perform on stage.
It performs in front of older people in order to introduce them to texts from classical or contemporary theater and to bring them relaxation.
By making art accessible to people with disabilities, the Compagnie de l’oeil rouge allows them to visit works as well as exercise a practice, whether amateur or professional.
In this way, it guarantees disabled people the exercise of a fundamental right to culture, recognized by various official texts emanating from the European Community or the United Nations.
Alongside forms more anchored in therapeutic mediation work, it makes the simple exercise an art.
Finally, the choice of the audience promotes social inclusion and helps restore a form of autonomy to older people by allowing them to rediscover their emotions and use their memory.
The support provided by the Order of Saint-Gabriel was notably used to stage the play Jean III by Sacha Guitry with performances in Belgium and Luxembourg and which won first prize in the Royal Trophy.
Another part of the funds will be used to prepare performances scheduled for October 2024 at the Saint-Jean de la Croix Senior Residence, a show in 2 parts:
- a part for “demented” people with Hang drums ;
- a part for more able-bodied people with extracts from Molière’s comedies and Sacha Guitry’s short play “La Lettre Bien Typé”.
